Do Clients Have Concerns About Lawyers Using Cloud Services?

Picture
The benefits of using cloud services to quickly and efficiently create, store, transfer and share files are too great to ignore for lawyers on the go. The use of cloud services such as Amazon S3, Dropbox, Google Drive, Basecamp, Evernote among many others have been used to make the practice more efficient for lawyers and their staff. These benefits are undeniable but what about clients? How do they feel about lawyers using their information on cloud services?

Data must be protected

The confidentiality bond between lawyer and client is strong and must not be broken, and it's best if there's not even a suspicion of a breach. Sensitive data about the case must be protected at all cost. If a client has concerns about cloud services being used to handle their information, you need to know what to tell them.

Read cloud policies

First, you should study up on the privacy policies and security measures of the cloud service your firm is using so you will be prepared if asked about data security. If you are using multiple cloud services, be sure to read all of their policies as different cloud services use different policies and security methods.

Additional cloud security methods

If your cloud service uses additional security methods such as two-factor authentication and encryption during file transfers, as well as encrypted storage, this can be used to quell any security concerns. Most competent cloud services do use encryption during transfer, encrypted file storage and two-factor authentication and before choosing a cloud service to use for your firm, you should check cloud service security measures to see if these measures are implemented.

Natural disasters

The other positive attribute to explain to your clients about cloud security is that it protects files and data against natural disasters. The cloud protects and secures files that may otherwise be destroyed by fire, flood, tornado or hurricane.
