How to Securely Communicate with Clients - Basecamp

When you are trying to communicate privately with your clients, e-mail is not the secure way to go about it. The truth is that e-mail is not well protected from discovery or hackers who are seeking to gather information. In order to keep information away from the prying eyes, you must use secure client portals such as Basecamp.

Basecamp is very easy tool to use

Basecamp in particular is a project management software system that you can access from online. Because of its secure client portal, it is specially designed to help individuals collaborate without leaking information. Even though it was originally meant to serve the needs of developers and their customers, it can also function as a very useful tool to lawyers and their clients.

There are other options that are more specialized and more robust than Basecamp. These types of software are very useful when running a virtual office a complete management software to keep your practice organized. These are very safe places to communicate and exchange documents that are sensitive and need to be protected. They include software such as VLOTech and ClientConnect.

Even though Basecamp is not the only choice available to you, it still is a very useful tool that can help you out in many ways.

Use cloudHQ to backup your Basecamp

Though having a place to communicate and store your data is not enough. In addition to protecting it from being stolen, you should also make sure it is not lost. This is a very important step in the reason why you should always backup and replicate the information as well.

This point cannot be stressed strongly enough because there are various ways you can lose your precious information if you are not careful to take the necessary precautions. This is where services such as cloudHQ come into play. cloudHQ is a service for synchronization, replication and synchronization of data between cloud services such as Evernote, Dropbox, Google Docs, etc. In other words, whatever you place in your Basecamp can also go into your Dropbox automatically.

Downtimes and outages can occur even with large and popular sites such as Basecamp. Also, relying solely on one source can create a single point of failure whereby if Basecamp fails to work properly—or if your data is lost—the entire project will be in danger. User error also presents its own risks—someone may accidentally remove or delete important information. Lastly, no website is 100% safe. There are hackers who make it their business to break into supposedly secure sites and delete data for malicious purposes.

I love Basecamp but given that it generates an email for messages sent back and forth to client and said emails contain the full text of the messages, how is it any more secure than regular email exactly? Is there a way to have Basecamp merely send notification of a message without sending the content of the message too? I'd be very pleased to see it if there is.

Here is how to disable message notification:

Basically, to turn off all email notifications for your entire account and all users, go to your Dashboard and click the “Settings” tab in the upper right. Scroll down the page to the section called “Email notification” and select “No email notifications.”

Yeah. I get that. I wish there was a way to have BC send email notifications but not send the full text of the message in the notification email.

Also, your link is to an article about the old Basecamp and not the current version of the product. Just FYI.

Btw, the new Basecamp has just daily notification and notification on todos.
To get notifications via email on any changes does not exist.
